Central Valley Pruning Contest

Honoring vineyard workers through skill, pride, and community.

On January 16, 2026, the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF) hosted its 4th Annual Central Valley Pruning Contest in Delano, California—bringing together farmworkers from Kern, Fresno, Tulare, and Madera counties to celebrate the artistry and expertise behind vineyard pruning.

About the Contest

The Central Valley Pruning Contest was designed to showcase the craftsmanship inherent in vineyard pruning and to honor the farmworkers whose hands shape the vines that produce the table grapes we cherish.

Contestants were judged on quality, safety, speed, and vineyard knowledge by experts from FELCO, UC Agriculture and Natural Resources, and vineyard management professionals.

How It Works

Preliminary round: Each participant pruned three vines in four minutes
Semifinal round: Top scorers advanced to compete for finalist placement
Final round: The competition concluded with six finalists in the women’s division and six finalists in the men’s division
